“Improving the energy efficiency of buildings is one of the biggest things I can influence from an environmental perspective. Ecology is an important value for us, alongside which we assess the profitability of the investments we make. When ecology and financial numbers shake hands, it is easy to make positive decisions to move forward.”

Tonnes are added to euros as Samla Capital develops and manages the properties it owns. The cooperation with LeaseGreen started with the energy renovation of a high-value property in Jyväskylä.

Olympic champion Samppa Lajusen wants to be a pioneer in responsible real estate investing . LeaseGreen designed and implemented an extensive energy renovation of a building in the centre of Jyväskylä, which has previously served as a call centre and a registry office.

The energy renovation included replacing the building’s ventilation and lighting and upgrading the building automation system.

There were a lot of ventilation machines at Yliopistonkatu 28 – or rather an exceptionally high number per square metre. However, their technology was mostly outdated and they did not work as a whole. The renovation, designed and implemented by LeaseGreen, streamlined the ventilation and made the whole more manageable.

The renovation reduced the building’s carbon footprint by 31% and annual energy consumption by 19%. The annual reduction in the carbon footprint is equivalent to almost one million kilometres of CO2 emissions from a standard passenger car.
