Digitalisation of building services was at the heart of the energy renovation of the Saarioinen factory. Building automation, ventilation, heat management, cooling and lighting were modernised into an intelligent whole, controlled by LeaseGreen’s cloud-based energy and conditions management service.
LeaseGreen implemented the energy efficiency investment in the Huittinen factory as a turnkey project from design to installation and supervision. The work included the modernisation of the air handling units and the exhaust fan, the renewal of the pumps in the heating circuit and the increase of the cooling capacity of the berry section of the factory, as well as the replacement of fluorescent tube lighting with LED lighting. The ventilation control was adapted to the needs and the lighting demand was optimised by means of sensor control.
The plant will reduceCO2 emissions by more than 500 tonnes per year, equivalent to the carbon footprint of around 120 detached houses. The increase in cooling capacity will improve conditions for workers, especially in the berry department, where the cooking of jams and marmalades heats the premises. The new ventilation solutions will reduce the feeling of draught and contribute to ensuring the high quality of the products manufactured by Saarioinen.
Saarioinen, a family-owned company that is one of the leading companies in the food industry, started production in Huittinen in 1972. The production facilities have been expanded several times since then, and today the factory covers an area of 24 000m2. The factory produces Finland’s most popular jams, marketed under the Saarioinen and Dronningholm brands, as well as whipped porridge, salads and salad dressings, among other products.
