“It’s all about the money. The price of district heat is rising all the time, and we will soon not be able to pay for the amount of energy we consume.”

As Oy Maamiehentie switched from oil heating to district heating 20 years ago, but now rising energy prices have forced the company to undertake a new energy renovation. The energy renovation, designed and implemented by LeaseGreen, will change the company’s heating system from district heating to geothermal heat and also install photovoltaic panels on the roofs.
For Petri Savola, the chairman of the board of the housing company, money is the main reason why the energy renovation was undertaken:
“My main expectation is that we will continue to keep our corporate rates at a reasonable level. With district heating, we would not be able to do that in the future.”
The energy renovation will reduce the company’s heating costs by around €61 000 per year. In addition, the company’s carbon footprint will be reduced by around 212 tonnes.
Located in Helsinki’s Suurmetsä, the building was built in 1974-1975. Renovations have become a familiar occurrence in the housing company in recent years: a facade renovation a couple of years ago involved replacing not only the surfaces but also the windscreens and insulation and sealing the windows. Just a few years earlier, the company’s pipes and roof were replaced. The energy renovation carried out with LeaseGreen is therefore on top of As Oy Maamiehentie.
“We’ll soon have it all wrapped up and we’ll be able to live a peaceful life within the company’s walls for the next 15-20 years.”
The company consists of five buildings, 114 apartments and just over 200 residents.
