LeaseGreen, which specialises in energy efficiency in large buildings, is launching its own trainee programme for university students or recent graduates in the final stages of their studies. The application for the programme just closed and more than 30 applications were received.
The father of the idea, CEO Jonni Ahonen, is pleased with the number and quality of applications for the trainee programme.
“The students have been even more interested than we expected in the concrete and quantifiable aspects of real estate investor responsibility. On the one hand, I can understand this, as the sector is exceptionally interesting and is developing at a fast pace. For many, it’s clearly important to be able to do work that matters.”
The idea of a trainee programme had been on Jonni’s mind for some time. Now the moment seemed right: a good leader for the programme had been found in-house and there was a demand for commercial advice.
“I see our trainee programme as a great place to develop, network and grow into big shoes. I also regularly spar with the trainee in lunch meetings every month – and of course I also collect ideas for improvement and feedback on us as a workplace. At the same time, this is a necessary investment to meet the rapidly growing need of our real estate investor clients to understand and improve the energy ratings of their properties.”
The trainee programme, which will start in autumn 2023, is the beginning of a permanent practice at LeaseGreen. Now, for the first time, the programme is looking for a Green Investment Analyst to join the Commercial Advisory team. Trainee’s tasks include drawing up energy maps and supporting real estate transactions with energy investment profitability calculations.
“The aim is to find a promise that stands out for its motivation and analytical skills and train it to become a professional in green investments in real estate”, summarises Anton Närekorpi, Account Manager in charge of the trainee programme.
“We hope that the experience is so good for both parties that the trainee ends up working for us on a permanent basis. We are well placed to grow to the top of this field.”
Anton knows what he’s talking about. After his fourth year of studies, he started working for LeaseGreen as an analyst and then did his thesis for the company. In total, he has been working for the company for five years.
For him, the best thing about LeaseGreen has been how technical and financial expertise complement each other.
“My background was more on the energy market and energy technology side. They have been useful in understanding and helping clients’ needs.”
LeaseGreen helps its customers to find and make climate action as profitable as possible. Added value is created when sufficiently diverse people work together.
“The new generation always thinks differently from the previous one. I’m one of the youngest employees in the company and I’m already in my thirties. Young people bring new thinking and diversity,” Anton says.
“I have half-jokingly told my colleagues that we are now looking for Anton 2.0. Growth-oriented and smarter than me.”
