Geothermal heat and quality challenges?

The stumbling block in many renovations is taken in the early stages, when a wellfield is designed with inadequate input data and pumps are sized according to suppliers’ programmes – without taking other technical aspects into account. On this basis, the end result cannot be very good. It’s like building a car and designing only the body and engine, but forgetting the controls and gauges.

Kuulen usein puhuttavan maalämmön erilaisista laatuhaasteista. Milloin on liian vähän kaivoa, epärealistiset lupaukset, huono asennuslaatu – ja asiakas jätetään oman onnensa nojaan. Kuulostaako tutulta? Oikeasti kyseessä on väärin mitoitettu maalämpöjärjestelmä.

So getting the big picture is key!

An undersized system consumes more electricity than planned, and the housing company does not achieve the desired reduction in charges. This also makes it time for residents to complain about their radiators being too lukewarm, even when it’s ten degrees below zero outside. On the other hand, a system that is oversized is unnecessarily expensive for the customer. In this case, the current situation of the property has been misunderstood or its potential has not been sufficiently explored.

After hundreds of successful energy projects, we can say that every housing association is different. When planning to replace an old heating system with geothermal, the sizing of the system should be based on actual consumption data.

Comprehensive quality comes from understanding the whole picture and having the right and reliable data on which to base decisions.

And at LeaseGreen, we love data. With a comprehensive amount of data, we analyse and optimise it to ensure that the right system can be sized. The use of raw data is therefore one of our quality principles. Already at the project stage, we also take into account planned future changes if they have a significant impact on the sizing or operation of the new system.

With a thorough understanding of the history, functionality and conditions of the property, a reliable geothermal solution can be designed and implemented for the housing association – one that is not too small or unnecessarily large. Thanks to our precise calculations, we can often keep well fields at higher temperatures than simulations show, resulting in efficiency gains of five to 10 percent. That means clear financial savings for the customer!

Based on our proven model, we are able to provide a 100% savings guarantee for our systems. Not everyone can do that.
